RE:"And did you pay any attention to the Intel investors when they said to wait for the 2.0GHz Pentium 4, when *it* was right around the corner?"

Did I need to? Sorry but I don't necessarily get my information from "Intel Investors"...
Shoot, it took most of them 3 years to figure out MHz sells-TM McMannis, and now they want to tell ME about it..lol

RE:"So do I. And they should include Athlon optimizations, if available. But if you are going to include Lame, you should also include the optimized Canon Encoder, or the Microsoft one that also has Intel optimizations."

Actually, Lame includes 3DNOW support. I did see one review where the reviewer turned off the 3DNOW support "just to be fair. Athlon still won...

On the other hand, he made several comments "wow, this benchmark really shows the power of the P4s and SSE2 extensions". So he turns 3DNOW off for the Athlon and keeps benchmarks optimized with SSE2 support intact.

What a hoot. I see so much of this crapola I want to puke.

I thought you said to include those that reflect the market...Lame and Fraunhofer probably have over 95% of the MP3 encoder market...

Now if you are in the movie encoding business...you should probably get a P4...
Sure is a valid benchmark...since we all work in hollywood. lol.
