You hit the nail on the head. The other way it will get eliminated is as the costs come down to open up the last mile, the RBOCs will either be willing to fund it or the customers themselves wills be willing to. Either way, we're looking at a 10-15 year cycle of slow chipping away until we get that bottleneck eliminated. By then, the demand for new innovative products will make bandwidth supply still look choked.

Robert, Thanks for the side note.

This bottleneck will not go away with IPO money - rather it will take the slow pay as you go cash flow method of the big boys in the telecom and cable world.

It is possible that companies from these two real cash flow worlds will compete to offer VOD first, forcing both to upgrade even it means burning some cash or taking on debt which they can service through cash flow.

Case in point:
ATT offering local voice service over cable and PacBell (SBC) offering DSL data service over local loop.
