Dennis, Maybe cars are not yet ready for electric propulsion but bikes are. I have been commuting 5 miles to work and back for about a year on a bike that I installed a Currie electric drive on. It is very practical for me as I can charge it at home and at work. It uses two 12 volt sealed lead acid batteries in series. The batteries just about double the weight of the bike so a nice lite battery pack would be very welcome. Also, Lee Iaccoca is pushing the E-bike. that uses a 36 volt system. NI-CAD I believe. I drove one last week at the REI store in Seattle and it was a very sophisticated and integrated design. I think the price will come down on those as they become more popular. The nice thing is you are not totally dependant on the e drive. When the batteries die, you just pedal. Uphill is tough because of the weight.

Regarding the EV market, Stephan does not want to get into the commodity battery market where the margin is low. I am curious and skeptical about the Energy Solutions market he is talking about. Probably the stock price has hit the low? Waiting for the next conf call in Nov. Ram

The hybrids already coming to the market may accelerate the use of battery powered cars, especially with the high cost of fuel and the pressure to cut down on emissions.

One question on that line is wether VLNC's relation with Delphi on car batteries was completely terminated. I know they paid VLNC expenses for some time at Henderson and when they stopped paying the rent a couple of years back reported that they had obtained useful information from their joint research. Will VLNC be entitled to any royalty if Delphi can successfully manufacture Li polymer car batteries ?

Regarding the "submarine batteries", what happened with the 50/50 VLNC/ATK deal ? ATK reportedly was able to do some work for the nuclear submarines. Of course with so much ATK has on its plate on the aerospace and munitions business the submarine batteries are not mentioned. ATK by the way is one of the large companies that has been able to make more than a 100% return on the company stock since last year. (In August 2000 the L was $50 and it now trades around $104 <g>)

In the mean time VLNC is holding above the support of 3.75 (presently trading around 4 with the DOW down again on triple digits.<g>)
