Albert, Claw is 105 mm2. Claw is single CPU. Sista Sledge has 2 CPU's and die size in 180mm2 range. PIV 0.13 will likely be 130mm2 or so. Can u imagine AMD trying to compete with a SLOWER, LARGER die. And once Windows enables 2 CPU support for desktops PIV adds multi-threading into the equation. regards, Kash

In the same process, Palomino would be about 70-75sqmm and Morgan would be about 60-65sqmm. Sledge Hammer, which will probably not impact volumes much if at all in 2002, will probably be under 200sqmm. I think it will be less than double Claw's area, since if it's two cores, then there's a good chance that they're sharing some stuff, like the non-primary caches. So Clawhammer will be a lot smaller than Northwood (estimated to be 140sqmm, though that's AMD's estimation), while Sledge will be somewhat larger. And, no, I will not compare it to Itanium, since they are not in the same market. Sledge is, at best, in the Xeon market, and Sledge will be bigger than the Xeon, perhaps by as much as 40%. -JC
