Jim,

I wouldn't discount the possibility of nVidia someday absorbing AMD.... >>

While often ideas about which companies might ally/absorb/meld with AMD turn out to be pipe dreams (e.g., transmeta, Dell), you have an interesting idea here. AMD has impressive engineering and intellectual property. But they are self-defeating in their marketing, strategic planning, execution timetable, etc. - all areas where Nvidia has demonstrated a real killer instinct. Interesting to think what Nvidia could do with the real assets of AMD with the demonstrated strengths they bring to the table - including focusing on how to maximize and capitalize on the strengths of AMD, rather than engaging in a jihad against Intel at any cost. I have owned Nvidia over the years, and it has been handsomely rewarding. I'm not in it at the moment, given that it has a ridiculously high PE in an environment when tech companies are getting sliced and diced in terms of stock price. But the high price of Nvidia is partly a function of their record of execution - relentlessly opportunistic, as opposed to the fumbling the ball at the goal line AMD seems to be so prone to.
