Wasn't just stock market that was the problem....remember the run on all the banks as people panicked.

That's a question for economists, but I assure you that leading economists never came to a consensus that the stock market slide caused the depression, it was a result of the excesses of the 20s. Using your logic, it would be impossible to have a depression without a stock market, and we've had recessions before stock markets.

I'm not saying that shrinking stock markets don't make matters worse, but it is not the only variable in a recession.
