I still think he is horrible In so many cases, politicians who instinctively first cover up - which can be to protect his family more than his position - are vilified. Almost no one dares touch on the other thing done wrong... married, having an affair. Is that because, deep down, many feel that can happen to any of us? Is this a form of social evolution? I feel it's one thing to feel an attraction to another, but it's quite another to follow that undisciplined urge, at least till one separates from the first mate. I'm not terribly surprised when very young and inexperienced people lack that discipline, but middle-aged men aren't green and midlife crisis, alone, does not justify the choice. Before Chandra Levy's parents could find fault with Condit, his affair was a betrayal to his wife, his children, and probably numerous other family members on both sides. Certainly, I don't judge him from any lofty position of moral puritanism, nor do I seek some great punishment for him. But betrayal is wrong; Dante reserved his worst circle of Hell for betrayal, and rightly so. I hate seeing the politics swirl around him as Fox News has done; they match Limbaugh in their passion to get a Democrat and paint him as Levy's killer. If she's found and he's cleared, they'll call him a disgrace to his constituents. What he is is a cheat and betrayer, who puts his own pleasure before many people he professes to care about. That makes him a cad or a cur; the brief coverup is far mure understandable to me, despite the added pain it caused the Levys. Maybe I'm out of step with the mainstream ?
