When I create a Printer as specified, and go to Word and then go to "File" "Create Adobe PDF" and then choose "Print via PDFWriter" I get the message "Acrobat PDF Writer is Not installed"

Anyone else get the same error message or am I doing something wrong?

Edit: I just got it working.....tres cool!

TIA

BK

Can anyone explain why this will work on my home computer(Win98) but not my work computer(Win NT)? TIA

"The PDF (Portable Document Format) has been around for years. No doubt you have a few of them scattered about your hard drive. The problem: creating a PDF could cost you hundreds of dollars. The answer: find a cheaper way of doing it. Remember that 'Add Printer' wizard you have sitting inside your Printers folder? Yeah, well... run it. We need to create a virtual output device that's capable of handling PostScript documents. You may need to install the printer manually, making sure to set "FILE" as the port. When prompted for the printer manufacturer and model, you can choose anything with the "PS" appendage. For the sake of argument, let's say we use the "HP Color LaserJet 5/5M PS" device. Again, this is just a VIRTUAL printer; don't run out and buy it. Once the drivers have been installed, go ahead and open up a Word document. Press CTRL+P to bring up the Print dialog, and select your newly created VIRTUAL printer. Be sure to put a checkmark in the "Print to file" box. Go ahead and save it to your Desktop. Now, flail on over to PS2PDF.COM and convert that sucker for free. "

Hello, I'm a newcomer to this site. Here's my take on the "create pdf" topic.

If you are using a Mac, it's very easy to create a pdf file.
1. Download the shareware "PrintToPDF" virtual printer driver from jwwalker.com
2. Drop it in the Extensions Folder and select it using the Chooser
3. "Print" from any app straight to a pdf file.

Here is a brief description from the web site:

PrintToPDF is a shareware Macintosh printer driver that creates PDF files (readable by Adobe Acrobat™ Reader or GhostScript on any platform). You do not need to have the full Acrobat package (as opposed to the Reader) installed for PrintToPDF to work. You can create PDF bookmarks to your section and subsection headings, and URLs will become hot links. PrintToPDF is not as powerful as Acrobat, but it creates simple PDFs for a much lower price ($20).
