Actually tech was the last domino. The broad market started its bear in March, 1998 and bottomed in October, 2000. Look at the A/D lines of the NYSE and NASDAQ.

BTW, here's an article from today's LA Times that deals with "cyclical" vs "secular".

Japanese co's are starting to lay people off in numbers. This won't help matters there either. The cradle to grave employment track in Japan is over.
