Not really Rambi, it just takes a few years in the cooler [which also has the happy effect of cutting off the prospect of them breeding]. There was an article on the resurgence of L.A. gangs in a recent New Yorker. A few years in the cooler doesn't do anything but make the gang members more skilled in violence, stronger with hours a day of weight lifting, and more dependent on the gangs when they get out since they can't get jobs with a record even if they wanted to. And apparently a record also makes them more desirable to certain members of the female species. Don't ask me why, I'm not a young woman, but apparently it does.
