Ref < Compaq - HP merger >

Wow this is big news. Big Computer shakeout ! The number of computer manufacturers continues to shrink !

The Compaq operation can benefit from HP's greater Itanium expertise, and there will be a common flavor of Itanium software with greater consolidation.

The challenge will be to meld together the two scattered operations.

Re: Hewlett-Packard to acquire Compaq

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, maybe the resulting company will feel able to exercise some autonomy when it comes to deciding which products it will offer to the markeplace.

If Intel decided to cut off HP and Compaq as punishment for selling AMD products, it would find itself cutting off a rather large portion of its customer base.

OTOH, this isn't anywhere near a monopsony without Dell and IBM.
