Hi Dennis, yes I suspect you are right about the practices, but of course MSFT will vigorously deny these as truth.

I think there was some recent court action about this issue <vbg>

As to an Intel based PC without MSFT, you can get your money back apparently. I recall some linux guys camping out on MSFT's doors demanding their checks. It made the papers and I think they got their rebate. But it wasn't easy.

Which kinda supports your point about the cozyness of deals and such.

However, the facts are that despite these cozy deals, end consumers aren't prevented from buying Apple. They choose to buy Intel and thus their choices of OS are suddenly limited to one. Which isn't the same as not being able to buy Apple. When you go to MacDonalds are you put out that you can't order a T-bone steak?

Nothing on the planet says that you can have everything you want. Choices lead to Consequences, often one of which is reduction in further choices.
