The minimum wage law is based on a faulty premise - that the state can command an employer to lose money. If a job doesn't produce the value of the minimum wage, either the job doesn't get done, or the employer and employee conspire to break the law and go into the black market - and break the tax withholding laws also.

I think it would be difficult. The cost of everything has gone up so much I don't see how it can be done. It used to be $500 got you a car that ran. If you were mechanical or knew a mechanic, $100 would. Rent, insurance, and utilities costs have similarly risen.

I don't think the answer is to raise the minimum wage. It's just a benchmark for the union pay scales, anyway. I don't think there is a solution. We have to accept the reality that the social contract is null and void for those on the lower end of economic ladder.
