Wart, Monster.com has over 500 listings for IT professionals in the Dallas area.

jobsearch.monster.com

About the same amount of listings for Detroit area.

Listings and stats aside, is there anything different about the IT job market now and in the last three or four years?

Wart:

The Dot Com Flu has evaporated many IT positions, but the IT area, in general, still appears to need qualified people... To whatever degree the Dot Com universe has shrunk, it is much bigger than it was 5 years ago... IT is still one of the best places to be be over the long term... Sergio's Monster.Com research plus the other career websites should at least offer leads... As the U.S. creeps out of the recession in the next 3 to 6 months, IT will probably lead the way as far as job openings are concerned...
