"new code" being some bogus benchmark Intel cooked up to make it look like they didn't double the die size for no visible purpose? Like captive "independent benchmark organization" Bapco, whose colocation on Intel grounds is purely coincidental, running some dumb SSE optimized MP3 encoder in the background? A very realistic scenario, that one. In case you haven't noticed, Elmer, the PC world doesn't exactly revolve around "new code", or it never would have standardized on the silly x86 instruction set in the first place.

Re: Show us a benchmark where Athlon beats P4 on new code.

Isn't much newer than linux:

P4 is total fraud, and so are Intel's crooked benchmarks. Example - Athlon is faster than P4 in most Photoshop operations but Bapco (the bribe-me-please company) focuses on one rarely used operation P4 does well on to make up a major part of its benchmarks.

ELmer,
RE:"Show us a benchmark where Athlon beats P4 on new code."

1. Show me some new code that I really need.
2. Show me some "new code" that Intel didn't have a hand in.

This all reminds me of 3Dnow...
I'll just take the faster "old code" all around processor.
OTOH, a lot will fall for the P4...I won't deny that...
