I have earlier expressed an allegiance to democratic deliberation in the formation of law, as the best way to assure fairness of result, and thus approximate to actual justice. However, there is no guarantee that a particular law will be just. On the other hand, we must have decisions, and if the duly constituted authority (ordinarily the legislature) promulgates a law, then it is formally accepted as just, although that does not preclude further politicking to overturn it. In the case mentioned, the use of force to uphold law is justified. However, the observation can be more widely applied, since no government can afford to have its laws flouted, just or unjust, and therefore one should expect to have the escalation of rebellion eventually lead to violence. Even if rebellion is justified, one must be prepared to be fired upon.......
