If that were the case the market would be bouncing back, not continuing to tank. The market predicts the economic trends by six mos or so, just as it did with the slowdown we're in now. Remember how the economy was supposed to rebound in 2H 2001?

BTW when things do get better, do you really think LU is going to hire back the 50,000 workers they've shed? IS Nortel really going to hire back 30,000 workers, or CSCO 8,000 workers? Nope. Things have changed. Co's across the borad are more cautious and that will nto change even if the econ picks up.

don't get taken in by the NAPM analysis. Below 50 is weakening, not strengthening. This could be a function of the lower amount of remaining manufacturing as a result of the recession that part of the economy is in.knc
