RESEARCH ALERT - Merrill Lynch cuts DuPont
estimate

NEW YORK, Sept 6 (Reuters) - Merrill Lynch on Thursday said it cut its estimates for
DuPont Co.(NYSE:DD - news) and widened its loss forecast for Lyondell Chemical
Co.(NYSE:LYO - news) and Millennium Chemical Inc. (NYSE:MCH - news) due to worse than expected economic activity.

Merrill lowered its third-quarter earnings estimate for DuPont to 10 cents a share from 15 cents a share, cut 2001 to $1.20 a
share from $1.30, and cut 2002 to $1.80 a share from $1.85.

Merrill widened its 2001 loss estimate for Lyondell to $1 a share from 70 cents a share. For Millennium, Merrill widened its
2001 loss forecast to 70 cents a share from 50 cents.

``Late last week Celanese reported very weak order activity going into September, and Eastman (NYSE:EMN - news)
indicated it will be reducing its dividend as part of its split into two companies. We believe this signals worse-than-expected
economic activity going into September, which is typically about 50 percent of third-quarter earnings,'' said the research note.
