NEWS-Epic Oil and Gas Ltd - News Release Epic's Rival acquires oil and gas leases Epic Oil and Gas Ltd EAS Shares issued 18,731,706 Oct 9 2001 close $.080 Wednesday Oct 10 2001 News Release Mr. Michael Hopley reports Epic Oil and Gas has provided an update on the status of the Bellingham basin natural gas exploration program. Epic's wholly owned U.S. subsidiary, Rival Resources Inc., is actively acquiring additional oil and gas leases and compiling all available technical information relevant to the exploration for natural gas deposits in the Bellingham basin. In addition, Rival has contracted ChemTerra International Consultants Ltd. of Calgary, Alta., to conduct a soil gas content soil survey over certain areas of Whatcom county that are considered to be prime targets for hosting shallow natural gas deposits. This service offered by ChemTerra collects and analyzes small quantities of gas from the soil at a depth of about one metre. Approximately 500 samples are being taken at approximately 100-metre intervals over target areas. This proprietary technique has an excellent track record of being able to identify underlying deposits of natural gas down to depths of several thousand feet. The results of the ChemTerra survey are expected before the end of November and will be used to identify specific shallow natural gas targets that will be drilled by Rival during this winter. The company has also filed its annual information form (AIF) for the fiscal year ending April 30, 2001. The private placement announced in Stockwatch on July 23, 2001, will be closed after receiving regulatory confirmation of the AIF filing. Cheers, JR.
