Assuming the phenomenon is validated, I can't see any. Either there's an external force involved, or there isn't. Seem mutually exclusive to me.

If if is purely human mentation, with no outside force involved, it's sure beyond anything our science can explain today.

If you apply Occam's Razor to the issue, the simplest theory seems to be the existence of an external force. That's a simple explanation in theory, though identifying the specific force may be a challenge. But once we actually go looking, who knows what we may find.

And why would we hesitate to look? After all, we're spending lots of research money looking for evidence of intelligent life elsewhere in the universe, and there's a lot less evidence for the existence of ET than there is for the existence of God.
