I have been driving the speed limit for nearly forty years and more, and never been tailgated.

Where Tim and I live, on the interstates you have to go at about 80 to mostly avoid being tailgated.

[I'm quick to point out that my total lifetime collection of tickets is two parking tickets, both in DC.]

That's pure rationalization, and a totally specious argument.

Now its true. The speed limit is often too slow. When I do drive the speed limit or not much above it I get tailgated in the DC area, Nassau County New York or other areas where I drive but even if I didn't 55 mph on an interstate is far too slow to be the limit.
