It should always keep in mind every time we think about investing: Different from the previous decades, customers are not in leash anymore. The markets are -relatively- open today. So you can't just pool some patents together, built an network with the technology, then dump it on customers and expect them to pay. Iridium failed exactly because of that: Land Based mobile phones dropped in prices dramatically and its telephony business didn't fly. Iridium customers were not in a leash waiting for their technology.
Today's mobile data customers are not in a 3G leash and that's the threat to 3G. As a result 3G business has to be redesigned.
