Nice info Don, but I don't think PE is a valid metric at the bottom. Price/sales and price/book are probably better metrics as earnings approach zero as the better companies just try to remain profitable while those struggling lose money during bad times. SMALL changes in earnings can have a huge difference in the P/E.

I'd REALLY be interested in comparisons of P/Sales and P/Book. I also think you have to look at market cap in this as who cares what a tiny company doing poorly like SFAM has for earnings yet it can distort the numbers when averaged in.

I DO find the PE and PEG numbers EXTREMELY valuable for making relative valuation judgements. It is interesting how UTEK moves around so much on the PEG sorted chart...
