I can understand that. I missed the 89 quake by mere hours. I was setting up some equipment for Interop at the staging site in SJ (I think that this was the 2nd Interop Show) and finished early so I took off.

I was about 1.5 miles from the epicenter of the Northridge Earthquake, so I have gone through a pretty hefty quake at close range. The ground acceleration with the Northridge quake was pretty at the top end of the scale....and I got the full effect. I did get airborne, luckily I had a bed underneath me.

My wife (who at the time was only a friend) was at the dot on the map that they designated as the epicenter. Her family had newsvans in front of their home for a couple of days.

I guess that I am not cured yet.
