NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- U.S. stock futures traded higher Tuesday, pointing to an opening jump as bits of positive earnings news filtered into the market.

September S&P futures added 4.30 to 1,100.00, about 6 1/2 points above fair value, according to figures provided by HL Camp & Company. Nasdaq 100 futures gained 11.50, or about 14 1/2-points above fair value, to 1,382.00.

Among the few stocks seeing early activity, Nokia (NOK) added 55 cents to $14.30. The Finland-based telecom equipment giant said it would meet fiscal third quarter profit targets. The company added that U.S. handset demand was showing signs of picking up.

But, Nokia also cautioned Tuesday it expected its third-quarter revenues to fall 5 percent year-on-year, compared with earlier expectations of 0 to 5 percent growth. See pulse item

UnitedHealth Group (UNH) said it is comfortable with current consensus analyst earnings expectations for 2001, and slightly increased financial expectations for 2002.

Analysts surveyed by Multex currently expect the health care firm to earn $2.74 per share for the current year, on average.

The company also expects to tell analysts and investors at a gathering in Minneapolis that EPS will rise 16 to 18 percent in 2002 on revenue of approximately $26 billion. Analysts are currently anticipating EPS growth of 15 percent to $3.16 on revenue of $25.4 billion. The stock closed Monday up $1.10 at $66.40.

On Monday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (INDU) ended the session down less than a point at 9,605.51 after swinging between losses of more than 50 points and gains of 50 points. The Dow Average plunged 235 points Friday to its lowest close since early April. Alcoa, Boeing, Eastman Kodak, International Paper and MacDonald's led decliners, while SBC Communications, General Motors, Merck & Co., Philip Morris and Microsoft led gainers.
