The anti-American sentiment is high; even if not every person was jumping for joy, you can be sure they are gleeful. American is not well-liked throughout the Arab world. Reasons: support for Israel; western values and customs inimical to Islam; identification as a colonializing power (via money or coercion); continuing warfare with Iraq; and (for such as bin Laden) support of "corrupt" regimes such as Saudi Arabia and Egypt. By the way, Israelis cannot do anything to satisfy bin Laden's group since, in the words of Daniel Goldhagen, they are "eliminationists" vis-a-vis the state of Israel--even a peace deal with Arafat wouldn't appease him.
