Hello Dr. Id,

The fact that Israel has the most prepared military has nothing to do with them being attacked. It's their size and the proximity to their enemy that makes them vulnerable. They are the size of Rhode Island. Their enemies can lob mortars and rockets from the safety of their own borders anytime they choose.

Our borders are obviously not as secure as they need to be and our military budgets are not exactly a state secret. Our enemies needed only to watch our news for budget cuts over the last several years which include the military. IMO it undoubtedly added to their ability and willingness to plan an attack of this nature.
