Absolutely. Democracy is the greatest enemy of these societies. Afgan death sentences for promotion of christianity & such.

Freedom would unravel their entire social structure.

I expected one day, not this soon,
we would need to begin to look at our
strange relationships in the middle east.

we do business with countries
which are entrenched in religious intolerance
and fundamentalism.

not only do business, but in fact are
economically dependent upon them.

the predominant religion here in the US,
Christianity, is in fact a crime in many of these countries.
in many of these countries, there is no aspect of the religious freedom upon which we built the foundation of our own country.

if these countries practiced slavery
would we still buy their oil?
if these countries practiced genocide,
would we still buy their oil?

perhaps its time to consider
religious intolerance on equal ground,
recognizing that it in fact represents the same
risk to the world and to us.
to enrich their societies with our wealth
and trade, ultimately strengthens
their cultural patterns and supports
the growth of their fundamentalism.

time to end the need for any middle eastern oil.
we could all probably do it, quite effectively
and efficiently, just through our own conservation
and change of habits.

think about it.
