It is a core belief of the American left that the world is unstable with only one superpower, even if that superpower is the US. The Clinton administration weakened the military and intelligence services because THAT IS WHAT THEY BELIEVED IN, rather due to any incompetence.

The American public allowed them to be elected, and thus is completely responsible for the damage they did. Yesterday, the American public appears to have paid part of the price, but maybe not all...

Scuse me, aren't the Wall Street Journal, The Washington Times, Fox News and NewsMax also part of the media? Nor did CNN ignore Clinton scandals -- in fact, I remember a year of fixation on them.

Thomas, the facts of this story may well be correct, but the conclusion is questionable. Two reasons: regardless of how many or what kind of spies you recruit, it is virtually impossible to penetrate terrorist cells. No one has been able to do it; also, the technology does not yet exist to guarantee we can stay one step ahead of the encryption technology being used by criminals.
