You have it right.
Have you ever flown into DC? You get a wonderful view of the mall, the pentagon, the whole deal. Hundreds of planes in the wider air space there. 4,000 in the air at the time in the entire country.

Do you think the country is ready within 45 minutes to shoot down commercial planes. It might in the future, but it's not hard at all to believe that for the period of time under consideration that all hell was allowed to break loose.

I am sure that air traffic controllers were frantically trying to contact the authorities when they realized they had these planes off course, but it is hard to imagine that an ATC guy just makes a call and they scramble a fighter jet up to chase the plane.

Huh?????

You mean to tell me that DC airspace, where the Pentagon is, where the White House is, where the President is, where helicopters fly the President of the United States to and from Air Force one, only depends on Air traffic control guys to let them know if an aircraft invades DC airspace????
The center of the most powerful military force in the world
only uses Air traffic control??

I find this impossible to believe. Am I wrong that the entire nation was under a "land or be shot" order later in the day? If so why did they not give a land or be shot order to the pilot who was flying the plane into the Pentagon. This makes NO sense at all from a military strategy point of view. If this time line is really correct we are being lied to in a big way. So now I am wondering when did Bush go hide in the Bunker. After the plane hit the Pentagon?
