As if on cue, Iraq speaks:

Iraq's Saddam: 'America reaps thorns sown by its rulers'
Wed Sep 12 2001 16:00:04 ET

Baghdad - Iraq's President Saddam Hussein said Wednesday that the terror attacks in the United States were ``the result of the thorns sown by its leaders in the world''.

``Notwithstanding the conflicting human feelings about what happened in America yesterday, America is reaping the thorns sown by its rulers in the world,'' Saddam said in statements distributed by the official Iraqi News Agency.

``Those thorns have not only bloodied the feet and the hearts of many, but also the eyes of people shedding tears on their dead whose souls have been reaped by America,'' he went on.

``There is no place that does not have a symbolic monument that shows America's criminal acts against these victims, whether in Japan that was the first to be seared by the nuclear destruction weapons boasted by America, or Vietnam, Iraq, the nuclear Russian submarine or the criminal acts the US is now perpetrating by supporting the criminal racist Zionism against our heroic Palestinian people -women, men, young men, old men and children''.

In the statements, which the agency said Saddam made while receiving Deputy Prime Minister and Military Production Minister Abdul Tawab al-Malla Haweish, the Iraqi leader said the question now was whether the United States ``would deliver itself and the world from the evils and terrorist crimes of its rulers against the world, or whether those rulers who have become a dummy in the hands of international Zionism ... will divert the feelings of the Americans into new terrorist designs against the world that satiate the Jewish Zionist greed for evil money and innocent blood?''

He said that ``the American peoples should remember that no one throughout history had crossed the Atlantic carrying arms against them, but it was they who crossed over carrying with them death, destruction and terrible exploitation to the whole world.''

He added: ``those who do not want to reap evil should not sow evil, and those who consider the lives of their people dear and precious must also remember that the souls of people elsewhere in the world are dear and precious to their kin.''

Saddam said America was ``exporting evil not only wherever its armies but also where its motion pictures go. If the American people remember all this, they will salvage their security and the security of the world from their rulers. On the other hand, if what happened in the US was an internal matter (the work of American nationals) then the house dwellers know best where their malady resides''.

You are completely mistaken if you think Afghanistan is the only one that I think will pay. I suspect Iraq will too along with others. This will be a war against terrorism. Stop sponsoring terrorism or you are declaring war on the U.S. That is why I am interested in China's support. If we can make assessments of who is and is not on our side we can clean up this mess (terrorism).

Bin Laden declared war on the U.S. in 1997. He is responsible for bombing two of our emabassies. He threatened the U.S. just 3 weeks ago. If they find out he did not do this, he still needs to be eliminated. If Afghanistan wants to help him it will be a costly decision indeed. Note the distinction between war on terrorism and war against the people who committed this act. It is a war on terrorism that I believe we will (and should) fight. I don't want to give up our freedoms because of what these nut jobs do. And bin laden is a nut job who has sworn to try to bring our country down.

Do you think Bin Laden should be left alone if another group is responsible? It sounds like you do.
