re:stress that lunatic fringe groups exist in all stripes and colours and can/do exist in all nations and religious organizations

The problem is that when a culture/country does not control these internal elements and allows them to express themselves externally (as acts of terrorism on other countries, there is basically no alternative other than war. After all, the United States cannot physically control these hoodlums directly.

Whatever retaliation occurs, the targeted countries will have only themselves to blame.

agreed, though I do not believe that any religion or nation was blamed here. It is unfortunate that those (arabs or not) in US who practice true Islam (Islam of peace) are getting death threats because of the terrorist acts of the extremist.

also agreed that those (extremest) come in all shape and colors

>I stress that lunatic fringe groups exist in all stripes and colours and can/do exist in all nations and religious organizations and may be male or female and as such we would do well to be vigilant in our efforts to avoid confusing the actions of psychotic individuals with those of the national or religious organizations to which psychotic individuals claim to adhere.<

Absolutely true. And, when a group, such as the KKK, refuses to denounce their radical fringe, that group should be held responsible as a group.
