Hmmmm, let's see. Afghanistan is land locked. It's neighbors are Russia (Uzbekistan, Tadzikistan), Pakistan, Iran, and China. It is mountainous, with few good roads. It successfully resisted an invasion from Russia. Assuming that the group including Osama bin Ladin had some involvement (just an assumption at the moment), these guys are probably holed up in caves and other facilities far away from Kabul, the capital. How are we going to send in the troops, and which neighboring countries will give us permission? If we target the caves where bin Ladin and his cohorts are purportedly housed, where exactly are those caves, and can they be identified clearly from the air so that our precision bombs will hit the target? Or do you prefer leveling Kabul?

These problems illustrate why a concerted and unified effort of all nations to outlaw terrorism and to force host countries to surrender terrorists must be the first step in any constructive retaliation strategy.
