I just choose to believe that three is all that could effectively storm a small cabin area such as the cockpit, or down the Isle, and get anything done without just running over one another.

Nobody said why only the three participated.

We know that there were ONLY three. The three we know of were probably sitting together and able to communicate only by furtive gestures or glances. With the cabin under the control of the terrorists, certainly no one could stand up in the aisle and ask for volunteers. Once the three moved, others may have joined. Or maybe there was another group of three or four that acted before the three we know about did. We have no way to know who or how many acted. All we know is that there were at least three who were prepared to act and that someone acted. Effectively.
