I'm no expert, but the Russians got their asses kicked for a number of years when they invaded Afghanistan. I also have some recollection that the British suffered the same fate in the 19th century, sending in 50,000 or so folks, and getting about 25 out.

I second that; I think that the Afghans are hard to bow, especially if you consider that the Russians failed.

Additionally the U.S. track record in fighting wars abroad stinks: as if Korea and Vietnam were not enough, there is the Cuban pig bay thing, the Iran-Contra incident, remains Desert Storm slightly positive (with the negative in that they failed to catch Saddam)...I believe that in such a minor scale attack many innocent Afghans would suffer but Bin Laden obviously would escape...

Rumor re Yahoo article that that rat bastard Laden is under house arrest along with his close associates. Just WTF does that mean re his status to bolt if he chooses to anytime. With a 5 million bounty on his head for awhile now he must have some security if mercs have not nailed him already.

<< Why can't we (USA) send about 10,000 of our troops overseas and just dig out (in a peaceful manner) Bin Laden, and bring his ass home? I mean, if Afghanistan had it in their minds that we had our resources pointed right at them, and all we wanted was to locate and recover this man, would anyone put up a fight?...

...What is so damn hard about going in to a depressed country and removing tyrants and terrorists? >>

I will try to take a stab at your questions with these questions to you:

"Last night, a rat jumped up on my dinning table and stealed a piece of my favorite Swiss cheese, he then ran next door into your house and hide. Here I am, knocking on your door with 10 of my friends/realtives, wanting to dig out (in the peaceful manner) the rat, and bring his ass home to teach him a lesson for stealing my cheese. I suspect that you also want to get this rat, and all I want is to locate and recover the rat and my Swiss cheese. Would you put up a fight to let me and my 10 friends going through your house, open every single drawers, cabinets, turning your home upside down to flush out this rat. We promise (but not guarantee) that we will try not to disturb anyone in your household, and will not break or misplace anything when we leave. Will you welcome us into your house to catch the rat?

I live in a mansion next door, and your home is a "depressed" old home. I have all the right tools and equipments to catch this rat, while you only have a broom and a stick. Does it give me all the rights going into your home to catch this thief rat and do the right thing?"

Hope I answer your questions. :-)

Peace,
