We are all very saddened by the difficult times that you now face.

A course of moderation as proposed by some thread posters is not a popular one. Sam's article about the poverty of the rural Afganistan should be enough to convince any haters of Bin Laden that attacking Afganistan would just bring more misery to that part of the world.

It has been posted that this is a greater tragedy than Pearl Harbor. But there are some major differences due to television.

When the Pearl Harbor Attack was announced the country knew that it would be a long road to recovery and victory. After this attack on New York people expect immediate
retaliation. There is little concern about where that retribution falls.

Somehow television and all this instant analysis has destroyed our sense of perspective.

Regards, Jerome

Sun Tzu,

Thank you for sharing these experiences. My prayers are with you and and your friends.

My wife has always reminded me "You can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar" whenever my tongue has gotten ahead of my brain. I do not know whether this old expression originated with Abraham Lincoln or whether it is derived from a biblical source (Samuel 16:7), but I doubt that the Lord said much about catching flies. ;-)

Sun,

Thank you for sharing your experiences and also putting into perspective the War machine which is always hungry for more. People everywhere are basically good as you state and nobody wants war; this fact is rarely reported. The fact that people are mad and want revenge makes news. But what is the news except reports of deviations of the norm from normal human behavior? Why do you think we never see acts of kindness on the news? There would not be enough time to cover it or to show it all.

I am sorry for all you went through and sorry for all this country has gone through. But let us not add to the pain.

Regards and Peace,

Brian
