Thanks for your well wishes. I will give you more details in a few days. I have been going thru my own post traumatic stress syndrome as Sun is I suspect. One thing I will say. I never thought of myself. And others acted similarly. I made sure my son and daughter in law were safe. I tried to comfort strangers. I hugged and was hugged by countless strangers. NY is a wonderful place. mike

PS Regarding the debate that has been raging on this thread. Yes the US has much to be blamed about re: foreign policy and the lack of policy against terrorists. Much like Pearl Harbor to be sure. HOWEVER, it is not the time now to deal with the problems that Brian and Sun have pointed out to us. It is the time to destroy the Cancer. Chemotherapy is not pleasant but it is often necessary. After we secure the situation world wide, we should then try to answer the questions posed. Remember the scene in A Few Good Men when Jack Nicholson says to Tom Cruise that he is the line of defense. "You want me there." Right now I want all those Generals there to defend me and the free world. If some innocents are to die as we put out this fire so be it.

PPS God Bless Mayor Guliani, a true american hero. If you come here you will see that even his most vocal critics would agree. People will be talking about his leadership hundreds of years from now.

PPS One thought about the equity markets. There were 40,000 or so folks in that building. There was huge infrastructure. There are redundancy and disaster recovery shortfalls that you folks will see when you trade on line tomorrow or monday. There are issues that have arisen from the tech buying strike that many ceos undertook for the past year. My clients for instance will be down until my firm is allowed back in the building.
There are new offices springing up all over NY and NJ. Commercial space is at a premium. The fed is about to lower rates as are the Europeans. Some industries will be impacted severely--airlines, hotels, insurance. Tech will lead us out of the recession which we must officially be in by now. I dont believe nasdaq will go down when we open on Monday(I cant see them opening tomorrow).

Brian, Sam, Jerome, and all those who sent me supporting PM,

Thank you for your kind words. I will try to stay away from this discussion and get on as much as I can. But before I do that, let me say that I find it very sad that a holy site common to Jews, Christians, and Muslims has been the excuse for bloodshed rather than the common cause of humanity and sharing. It says something very disturbing about us as a species.

As I mentioned before, there are many who are milking this tragedy for all they can. And I do not believe the international hedge funds are any different. I am sure there will be plenty of fear mongering in the capital markets as well as opposing currents to cause huge swings.

Although I consider short sellers as essential to the health of the market as the longs, I will close all my existing short positions. I will spend the week contacting people in the financial district and offer my services to rebuild the infrastructure. Should there be no need for it, I may resume trading after a week.

Without wishing to pass moral judgement on anyone, I highly recommend that speculative trades such as short selling be avoided. When emotions are running high, neither you nor the market makes rational decisions. And the erratic moves can be quite costly.

Should you feel to buy stocks as a patriotic duty, it is your choice. But do not overstretch your finances. You benefit the country more by having a strong financial base than any effect you may have on the stock market.

with most tender condolences for the families of the victims and the greatest belief in the nobility of human spirit,
Sun Tzu
