To these terrorist groups the US is the Great Satan. They hate everything this country represents, it's support of Saudi Arabia, and it's action against Iraq among other things. Israel is the 'Small Satan', and while people like Bin Ladin want to eliminate Israel it is a smaller issue with them, and our support of Israel is not the main reason for their campaign against us. They hate the western cultural influence which is creeping into the Arab world, and they see the US as the main reason for that. Bin Ladin hates the royal Saudi family, seeing them as corrupt and not sufficiently dedicated to Islam. The ultimate goal of people like Bin Ladin is to turn the entire middle east into a 13th century-style Islamic religious dictatorship, much like the Taliban have done in Afganistan. Their first victory was the takeover of Iran by the Ayatollah, and they want to see a domino effect take place across the entire region, but see the US as standing in their way. We will therefore continue to be their main target for a long time to come. The only action that has a chance of countering this fanatical war against us is massive and severe action against them on all fronts. It's really incredible that these people can walk into this country any time they please. There are all kinds of mid-eastern groups living in the US who hold regular fund-raising events here and send the money to terrorist organizations. And the terrorist pilots even get their flight training here. Our first step should be to clean up this situation right here at home, to control our borders. All this IMHO. - T -
