Paula, why do you assume that it was immoral for our CIA to train him. As you may or may not recall, the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan and waged a brutal war including chemical weapons against a technologically inferior country. It was felt at the time that their ultimate goal was to extend their empire south through Pakistan. Guerillas trained and armed by the US and its allies countered the brutal expansion of the Soviet empire and probably hastened its demise. Unfortunately, bin Laden has turned on us - it does not follow though that we were wrong to aid the Afghans, in spite of what has happened in that country. m.

<<Bin Laden was trained and got his start in the terrorism business from our CIA.>>

Unfortunately, that is a fact many people do not know! Back in the late 70s and early 80s the then Indian prime minister, Indira Gandhi fed a monster called Bhindranwale to gain political advantage over a moderate political opposition party in Punjab. Eventually, she had to take a military action against his group which threatened to break-up India. The consequences of that action? She was murdered by her own body guards. Not only that, her son Rajiv Gandhi's policies towards Sri Lankan Tamil rebels eventually contributed to his death in 1991.

There is no question about the fact that Pakistan is training terrorists that infiltrate to Kashmir, India and wreck havoc! Remember the hijacking of Indian Airlines flight in December 1999? Today the Pakistan's military Government issued a statement condemning the terrorism. I find that ironic! Not just because they are big backers of terrorism - Pakistan is only one of the three countries in the world that recognized the Taliban government in Afghanistan. Yes, the devil is reciting Bible verses. Unfortunately, some public is falling for it.

My point is, terrorism can not survive in any parts of the world without the backing of some governments. First and the foremost, the governments - especially the legitimate governments like USA, India should not support any form of terrorism - regardless of the cause. Period.

You will never know when the beast will turn back and eat the master whose hand that fed him.

<Bin Laden was trained and got his start in the terrorism business from our CIA.>

Most don't realize this. I sure didn't - until yesterday. It appears that it was the Reagan administration that supported & subsidized Bin Laden and help train his followers.

According to the Central Intelligence Agency, which helped arm the anti-Soviet Mujahedeen, bin Laden had between 12,000 and 20,000 supporters trained in arms, explosives and the use of U.S. Stinger missiles. When the Russians pulled out of Afghanistan in 1989, bin Laden went quiet for a while, but he and his supporters were not allowed to return to Saudi Arabia as the rulers feared having trained and battle-tested men in the kingdom.

When Iraq invaded Kuwait a year later, Saudi Arabia and the United States forged a strong alliance, with U.S. and other troops pouring into the kingdom. Bin Laden saw this as U.S. occupation and, shifting his base to Sudan, declared a jihad to evict the new invaders from Islam's holy lands.

THEN: Bush SR. was president. Cheney was Secy of Defense. Colin Powell led forces.

NOW: Bush JR. is president. Cheney is Vice President. Colin Powell is Secretary of State.

Geez … I hadn’t realized the connection. Not good at all.

<Our own immorality is coming back to haunt us. Remember Bush Sr. is CIA.>

You're certainly right. It is coming back to haunt us. UNBELIEVABLE!
