heatsinker, The fatal flaw they exploited, one that is not there in El Al flights, was the instructions to the pilots to follow the hijackers orders where live are at stake, so once they started to kill passengers they pilots gave in and let them into the cockpit.
Of course they never thought they would self immolate since mosy hijackers do not want to die, they just want an audience.

From this day there will be new marching rules, no entry to cockpit. possible better doors or even dual doors. In addition US marshals will soon take their place on flights, as they did ages ago.

I disagree. What did the terrorists do that was so sophisticated? Go to flight school? They had a great idea, use a fully fueled jet as the weapon, but this doesn't seem to be the work of immense genius.

The work that they did that was incredible is avoiding detection for so long. Its clear that the FBI had tabs on atleast a couple of the involved hijackers; that they never got a clue that such a thing was being planned is what's so incredible. These guys must have had to communicate somehow during the planning phase, and realize these guys don't really have access to things like cryptographic talent etc., so how in the world did they manage to plan this?
