I propose that we begin a discussion here of what should constitute the minimum acceptable strategic goals for the outcome of the coming war effort. 1) Complete retaliatory destruction of all known and as of yet unidentified elements of Ossama Bin Laden's forces and allied elements. Destruction of the Taliban regime as Bin Laden's host is a necessary prerequisite to this end. 2) Complete elimination of any nuclear weapons or energy programs within Pakistan and Iraq. Complete elimination among of all means of conducting mass destruction among all Islamic states that have supported terrorism including all means for conducting chemical and biological warfare. 3) Absolute international prohibition against harboring or supporting terrorist forces. In short, reimplementing formal standards for conducting warfare and subjecting any state that does adhere to these standards to massive armed retaliation. 4) Ending terrorism with unified, international military action in the same manner that the British ended the slave trade and that we eliminated the Barbary pirates.
