I think it's less complicated but with much higher eventual stakes. The drug war is only that in name but I guess we should remember that when expecting something from our politicians. The problem is they are not elected by very smart people, but keep that quiet some illiterate voting folk in Florida may get offended.

The one thing that has struck me about the responce here, is the pompous and arogent way in which many politicians have reacted. The gravity, and difficulty in what we are about to undertake is being overlooked. There is way to much back patting and self-praise. Meanwhille washington fights over the "language" used in the decl out of our Govt. The fact is nobody has stood up and said"We screwed up, and failed the American people". The FAA failed, in policing and training. The CIA/FBI failed to detect this. The Deffence dept failed by allowing an attack on the most crucial defence related sight in this country. There are only two groups of people who deserve praise.1) Is the Leadership of NYC, and it brave Fire, rescue and police departement and 2) The people on those flights and the victems of the WTC who acted as humanly as they did to help others. These frigin congresmen and Journalist's and the President did nothing to prevent this, and have done nothing yet to deal with it. When they do then they can pat themselves on the back. I dont think its courageous to be a victim, My grandparents were victims(Germany). I think people in the US Government should stop talking about how great every one has responded, or how great America is and do something to secure are interest's. Theodore Rosevelt a GREAT AMERICAN president once said "Walk Quitly and carry a big stick"(he probably spelled it correctly-g-). I think its time for America to stop talking and start Executing plans to protect, and retaliate for the thousands of dead and to remind people by action not word's who we are and how strong are resolve is.

A bit of speculation: I have to agree with another poster I've read on SI-

It is curious how amateurish the "cover-up" has been by Bin Laden, if indeed he is one who masterminded this. There doesn't seem to be much effort at all to conceal it (e.g. rental car found w/"how to fly a jet" video w/Islamic materials.; A car with a "Bin Laden" sticker on the side panel!). Almost, as if, an effort has been made by the perpetrators to pin the blame on him. At a minimum, there is a dichotomy between the precision and thoroughness of the operation, and the "in-attentiveness" to the cover-up.

On another thread, a poster speculated that this could be a diversion to focus all attention on Bin Laden himself (and not the complexity of this operation). I've read about the apparent Taliban-Bin Laden-Pakistan intelligence triangle that is the real power behind terrorist attacks right now.
Maybe this is an effort to divert (from focus on that)

We can only speculate, but I find Taliban's apparent offer to house arrest/possibly extradite Bin Laden either a total ruse to buy time, or perhaps a more complex effort to pin this on him, so that they can go operating activities w/o him, and also get away with this attack w/ammunity.

I hope our intellegence folks don't get too "Bin Laden-ed" too soon...I do still believe that Bin Laden has to be caught/killed ...folks here will want a scalp, or it will feel like a lost war....regardless of the bigger battle ahead
