Eye Doc,

an open invitation for these lunatics

Every person I've seen who was interviewed because of their professional expertise in this area has made two points:

1) the profile of the trained, professional terrorist is not that of a lunatic, to the point that lunatics don't make the cut to become such a qualified terrorist; and

2) as long as the public maintains the perception that terrorists are lunatics, we undermine our ability to defend ourselves because we are demonstrating a lack of understanding of the enemy.

As to our military budget would it not be easy for these extremists to perceive our reduced military spending as a sign of weakness. IMO a
fanatical mind could rationalize this without a second thought. Relatively open borders, lax security at airports, and a military that has been
dramatically cut was an open invitation for these lunatics.

Again all IMO,
ED

But our military budget INCREASED every year under Clinton. And there were NO cuts in our spending on military intelligence. Aside from uw's hatred of Clinton, why do you feel that we were so "weak"? (I don't think that the thousands of bombed people of Iraq perceived our military as "weak").

As for defending our borders, how do you know that some of these terrorists weren't here legally (as in citizens or legal residents). And how would you stop that? Internment camps for Arab-Americans?

Finally, since you seem ready to blame the Clinton Administration (and again noting that I had no love for that Administration and never voted for Clinton or Gore), why not propose a similar (and equally ridiculous) argument that the terrorists were waiting for us to have weak leadership in the White House before staging an attack of this magnitude? It can cut both ways...
