OK.

I saw the question as just that, a question. No implication of personal offense. More a request for clarification of whether arno was saying it as a collective matter or as a matter of some and not others having the will.

I, for one, hope you stay and continue to participate in our discussion.

"you seem to be taking personal offense"

mr.mark,

I never once thought you were taking offense. I've read nearly every post on CL (except for the last 1,000 or so, as I'm way behind) and I understand your method of asking for pertinet information for clarification of issues.

I just get worried by all the talking heads saying we have to destroy terrorism and it's network. I don't think they comprehend the order of magnitude this will require.

Mark,

Once again, I do apologise if you thought I was pushing words into your mouth. And I mean this sincerely.

I just assumed we had a bit of history behind us as far as friendships go and i could afford to be a little lax than usual. Maybe I took too much for granted.

Sorry to offend you.

Gloop, I am sorry this happened here on your thread, and that I was instrumental or even a part of it. I apologise to all who I may have unknowingly offended with my words. Let me just say such was not my intention.

Take care.

Public Apology

It would appear that I didn't convey my message very well and for that I apologize. I'm not very good at explaining myself sometimes and this was one of those times. To compound matters I had no time today to fix what I obviously botched in my message this morning. So let me give it a try here:

I think the question of whether we have the resolve to see this out is fair. I don't see this as an individual question but rather a societal question. I don't doubt your passion and willingness to sacrifice and so what I was trying to say is don't be personally offended when people raise the question. Instead I said - "you seem to be taking personal offense". Not very good - chalk it up to my own inability to word things correctly in this medium.

Then there was the infamous edit

"Lets just try not to allow the times to destroy the group dynamic we enjoy on this thread"

I can clearly see where since I was responding to you that you would see this as a message directed towards you. That was not the intent at all! What I was trying to say was under the current circumstances we're all a bit emotional at the moment. Many times this gives way to lack of civility with our fellow posters and I don't want that to happen. We do have a great group dynamic on this thread and YOU are part of that. Again - Not very good - chalk it up to my own inability to word things correctly in this medium.

So I believe I have an obligation to not only apologize but to do so in public. I didn't word things well and I was so busy at work today that I never got an opportunity to set things straight. I'm sorry.
