Colin Powell, My impressions of him, are very good.. Besides wanting to "get it right" in the way of finding who is responsible, I think he will try to "put things right" for the future.. He is already insisting on meetings between the Isrealis and Palestinians as I understand it.. One of the "cooler heads" around, in both senses.. His press conference proved to me, he can think and talk at the same time.. Re: the inflammatory rhetoric seen on these threads by the thread hot heads..Fortunately, I do not think that is the prevailing attitude of the general population, except for those terrible isolated incidences. For example, my neighbor lady who I mentioned before, that went to Africa, She and her family is from (still) New York.. Her niece witnessed the second plane plowing in the WTC from her apartment window.. No screaming for revenge.. Just remorse for the tragedy.. Standing in line at the bank, yesterday, A 60 year old male "hothead?" turns to the lady behind him, And asks something to the effect, "A time for nukes?" . She calmly says, "No nukes".. That dampened that right there. We should all do it. So IMO, the level headed among us, are not as vocal as we see here but are basically still in charge. Thank goodness.. Because that inflammatory rhetoric like we see here on SI, feeds on itself, reinforces itself and causes those terrible incidents like random attacks on mosques, etc.. It is not unlike the p!ssing match over, IMO,irresponsible rhetoric I got into a month or so ago.. RE: the sports clothing on the Palestinian youths.. It is my opinion, after thinking about it, that all of us that travel, should it make it a point to try to get to know the average person, which is in most cases are very poor from a materialistic point of view.. Try to be their friend, not just boss them around as they wait on you at a nice restuarant.. Don't just visit the tourist spots from air conditioned buses with other "rich Americans" .. Take their bus system.. Be amongst the people.. Not just stay in the Sheraton with the same types as ourselves. We can do the that in Seattle or St Louis and come out knowing as much .. Each and everyone of us, should be a roving goodwill ambassador.. Every time we meet someone on a individual level, really meet them.. They get to know us, WE get to know them and it becomes a mini-peace conference, JUST as important as Camp David, Geneva.. etc.. Just random thoughts.. m
