I think you have it the wrong way round, Skeets. They don't equate us to Israel, they equal Israel to us. We are the Great Satan, Israel is only the Little Satan, the outpost of Western ideas in the Middle East. Since the industrial revolution, Western wealth and power has been sweeping the globe, bringing Western culture and ideas with it. This is intolerable to large swaths of the Arab world, who remember bitterly their lost hegemony of one thousand years ago, and who have completely bungled their own transition to modernity in the 20th century. This fight would happen even if Israel had never existed; Israel is just the canary in the coal mine.
