Nope, they wouldnt. SA is an oligarchy, and the population would fare much better in American controll. Iran would be a problem. I also believe new fuel standards need tobe implimented to reduce dependence.

<Addressing some posters to you> This stuff about occupying everything is nonsense. First of all, it is untenable. But more importantly, it is unnecessary.

Despite their potential for destruction, power in these countries is concentrated in the hands of a very few. Getting to the power dudes is more complicated, but it can be done. If you damaged this opponents' organizational structure enough, it will have difficulty recovering quickly or at all. The vast majority of Iraquis, Syrians, and Afghans have no means, education, desire, or....to set up a terrorist operation such as Bin Laden's

I am not saying that other groups won't rise up over time, or that we are getting to the real root of the problem. But damaging/disabling these organizations are definently possible, and will buy the U.S. time to implement broader safety measures (including intelligent gatherings) that can prevent future attacks.

If this is a war, we have to be a bit patient....let's put the opponent on their heels first (while not creating any NEW wars), while we get our defense act together.
