"what do we do with the reality of what our country has done in recent past that has contributed to the terrorism in our world?"

I have many thoughts on this, as my father was a career military man. His speciality was in the logistics of guerilla warfare - if you can even believe it - and he participated in many U.S. covert operations all over Asia over a period of at least 30 years. I grew up being tutored in Chinese by his colleagues, men with blond hair and blue eyes from Iowa and Virginia. I regularly went to weekend outings with the families of these operatives. My father told me stories of how they installed Suharto in Indonesia, and in the end, he was as bad or worse than Sukarno before him. This has gone on for fifty years all around the world and I assume it has been some kind of unofficial foreign policy.

Perhaps some answers can be found in the fact that it is human nature to put a Band-Aid on something, instead of dealing with the root problem because it is too dirty or would cost too many lives. This time, the wound is too great for a Band Aid, and we have to make some hard choices.

b-witch-- I suggest there is NO "more-human" race. There is NO religion better or more correct than another. The very soft and weak bleeding hearts that have spewed unrealistic bullshit such as you just did give people such as those that perpetuated this war crime the belief they and their familys are safe from reprisal. Talk to any vet of any war. Ask him if he just wanted to 'talk' to those trying to kill him. Ask one who has smelled the breath of an enemy as he killed him if he was proud or felt good. You will get a strong "NO" answer but it often has to be done. Anyone that believes killing comes easy to anyone raised with an American and religious background is totallly wrong. However, the strong, brave, and sane know that killing is often required. Yes, I am saying you are a weak coward with little mental capacity. The brave and strong in this country along with the families of the victims of this act of war see cooments such as you wrote as the thoughts of a traitor.

It is similar to taking a personal stance against violence of all kinds and then suddenly realizing that that just won't cut it.

We may not have the right, but we assuredly have the duty.

The men who did this are beasts. The men who planned this are beasts. We need to respectfully and intelligently turn them into hamburger.

And we need to do it with great clarity.
