one crisis reaction i have not seen discussed is that following the Kobe earthquake in 1995. 6,425 people died and damage was estimated at $100 billion. the nikkei fell only slightly the day of the quake, with construction cos actually rising. analysts were saying the rebuilding effort could actually be good for the economy. it was not until a week later that the Nikkei fell 5.6% out of the blue on one day. it lost 8% total over the ten days after the quake.
