They don't really answer to Washington or the President as You would expect. I have had some dealing with these people in Foreign countries and have come to the conclusion that they are very smart people that operate as if they had their own mission in life with or without the approval of the US government. That is why its absurd to blame Clinton or Bush for what the organizations do. They have taken on a life of their own. I have asked these people over a beer in some of the loneliest places in the world, "What are are you guys doing here?" My impression was that they cranking up the expense account. Regards, Jerome

In what may be the worst case of "what goes around, comes around," it is reported by an Iranian source that the 20 terrorists may have been given phony passports by officials of PakistanÕs Inter Service Intelligence (ISI)--the top intelligence agency in the country. The passports supposedly were used by the terrorists to transit through Europe and for eventual entrance into the United States. The US has not had the willpower to go all out and declare Pakistan a terrorist state. Will we now have the guts to do so?? It was the ISI, during the '80s, that funneled CIA weapons and money to the mujaheddin forces in Afghanistan. If it is true that the terrorists were aided by Pakistani government officials, Islamabad may join Kabul as targets for American military retaliation The US is in a real quandry since the ISI helped the CIA n the 80's. But I really think that if pakistan is targeted as a terrorist state, the supply and communication lines for Bin Laden will be cut off. The United States has recently tilted toward the Taliban and against the anti-Taliban Northern Alliance of General Ahmed Shah Massoud. The Defense Department largely supports Massoud, but the CIA and State Department argue that supporting the general would put the United States on the same side as Russia and Iran--his two major backers. Massoud was the target of a suicide bomb assassination attempt by two Bin Laden allies disguised as television journalists the day before the attack on the United States. But that did not stop Massoud's forces from launching a missile attack on Kabul Airport the night of September 11--to the delight of many Americans, many of whom were surprised it was not a U.S. military attack. And here's where all logic goes haywire. The defense dept. supporting the Afghan General in exile fighting Bin laden and CIA and State dept not agreeing to support him.
